Surah Ash-Shams (undefined) is the 91th chapter of the Holy Quran. It was revealed in Mecca and contains 15 verses (ayahs). Read it below with the Arabic text, transliteration, and Swahili translation, or open it as interactive flashcards to memorize it verse by verse.
- 91:1
وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا
Wash shamsi wa duhaa haa
Naapa kwa jua na mwangaza wake!
- 91:2
وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا
Wal qamari izaa talaa haa
Na kwa mwezi unapo lifuatia!
- 91:3
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا
Wannahaari izaa jallaa haa
Na kwa mchana unapo lidhihirisha!
- 91:4
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا
Wallaili izaa yaghshaa haa
Na kwa usiku unapo lifunika!
- 91:5
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا
Wassamaaa'i wa maa banaahaa
Na kwa mbingu na kwa aliye ijenga!
- 91:6
وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا
Wal ardi wa maa tahaahaa
Na kwa ardhi na kwa aliye itandaza!
- 91:7
وَنَفْسٍۢ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا
Wa nafsinw wa maa sawwaahaa
Na kwa nafsi na kwa aliye itengeneza!
- 91:8
فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا
Fa-alhamahaa fujoorahaa wa taqwaahaa
Kisha akaifahamisha uovu wake na wema wake,
- 91:9
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا
Qad aflaha man zakkaahaa
Hakika amefanikiwa aliye itakasa,
- 91:10
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا
Wa qad khaaba man dassaahaa
Na hakika amekhasiri aliye iviza.
- 91:11
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ
Kazzabat Samoodu bi taghwaahaaa
Kina Thamudi walikadhibisha kwa sababu ya upotofu wao,
- 91:12
إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا
Izim ba'asa ashqaahaa
Alipo simama mwovu wao mkubwa,
- 91:13
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَٰهَا
Faqaala lahum Rasoolul laahi naaqatal laahi wa suqiyaahaa
Hapo Mtume wa Mwenyezi Mungu alipo waambia: Huyu ni ngamia wa Mwenyezi Mungu, mwacheni anywe maji fungu lake.
- 91:14
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا
Fakazzaboohu fa'aqaroohaa fadamdama 'alaihim Rabbuhum bizambihim fasaw waahaa
Lakini walimkadhibisha na wakamchinja ngamia, kwa hivyo Mola wao Mlezi aliwaangamiza kwa sababu ya dhambi zao na akawafuta kabisa.
- 91:15
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَٰهَا
Wa laa yakhaafu'uqbaahaa
Wala Yeye haogopi matokeo yake.

Ash-Shams, the Sun, opens with a series of oaths by the sun, the moon, the day, and the night, building to the central truth: that the one who purifies his soul succeeds, and the one who corrupts it fails. It recalls the people of Thamud who killed the she-camel and met their ruin.
